Have preparations been made at the Staples Center for Walter Cronkites wake? How many days will CNN and CNBC dedicate to the most trusted man in America? It seems like the networks feel they have to give Walter the send off they gave Michael Jackson.
The networks are paying their tributes and trying to connect themselves to the esteemed anchor, but it doesn’t work. Walter Cronkite was the right man at the right time. He represented a type of journalism that depended on substance and content more than seductive images. His brand of journalism would not have kept him #1 in the ratings. He made the right decision to retire at the top of his game. 
With his passing, perhaps CBS will now retool their nightly news to respond to an audience in the year 2009 rather than 1969
