We were a Jackon 5 family. I struggled to understand how anyone could really enjoy Donny Osmond more than Michael. Michael’s singing came so effortlessly, while Donnny seemed to be working so hard.

When I was a kid, I think buying records was a great escape from life. I remember how exciting it was when my sister came home with a brand new Jackson 5 45. I can still see the purplish blue, MOTOWN,through the record sleeve. To enjoy it, we had to use a portable red record player. By today’s standards, the sound was awful, but at the time, it was perfect. It was a chance to sing and dance. I can remember trying to sing and dance like Michael to  ”Never Can Say Goodbye.”

Thanks for the memories, Mike.

I’m glad you are respectful of his death. I’ve been reading a few blogs where people obviously dislike him, but straight-up have no respect for him or his family during this time. People sometimes believe going against the grain combined with social media is trendy, giving them an edge. We must be careful not to use a faceless Internet as an excuse to abandon humanism, respect and dignity.

For my bit on Jackson’s death:

  1. observer-In fairness, many cynical ideas emerged after hearing about his death, but I think it was to deal with the shock. The more I read about this man, the more sad his life seems. I wonder if he ever connected to the joy his music brought to many basement parties, weddings, barbeque’s, and celebrations.

I am so sick of some Michael Jackson fans bashing donny Osmond’s talent. What is it– resentful that Michael is dead and Donny’s not?? I love both guys, and there is no reason to deride Donny trying to pay homage to Michael. Donny never compared himself to Michael–others did and still do, apprarently. Have you ever seen Donny in Joseph or in concert, period?? (So much for the weak voice you allude to.) Donny was Michael’s friend and stood by him at his darkest time–they gave each other advice, Michael usually profesionally to Donny (Donny did recognize Michael’s genius) and Donny to Michael on a personal level, usually. They were even planning a collaboration. So, do what Michael would have wished– stop the disrespect and rudeness and judging of others. RIP, Michael.

  2. Cherry-I’m not sure where all of your anger is coming from or to whom it is directed. You clearly have stronger feelings than I do about the issue. I simply pointed out we were more of a jackson 5 family than Osmond family, which I imagine is not that unusual. Also it is true, I didn’t like Donny Osmond’s voice. It doesn’t mean he has a bad voice. It simply means one person on the planet finds it hard to listen to. Just like I don’t like Tom Waitts, but I know people who do. I like Neil YOung, but I know others who bristle at the sound of his voice. So I hope you find some bloggers you can argue with over the issue, but your not going to find much of a fight here.
