For many athletes, the ultimate goal is winning it all: the World Series, NBA Championship orthe SuperBowl. Historically, this also includes a ring, a trophy, and a visit to the President of the United States of America.

In recent years, the visit to the president has been marked by controversy depending on the political leanings of the President. Not all athletes want to go to visit with the President. Clearly this can be awkward for the White House administration and the professional sports team. But with Obama as the President, its a whole new ball game.

I wonder if it will be enough to win the ring or the trophy. I imagine there will be players diving for balls, chasing down tackles, and leaping into the stands to catch balls for a chance to be the first athletes to meet with Obama. For some Black athletes, sharing the championship with the first Black President will beyond their wildest dreams. And no doubt, it will truly be history making.

Right now, all we know is Obama has four years, which means 4 Championship years. After that, who knows. Think of it, many Irish Catholics are still waiting for a second chance at the Presidency.  So athletes, the race is on to be one of the few athletes to have both won a championship and celebrated with the first Black president.
